Jim is an electrical engineer who moved to Seattle in 1985. He learned to sail after building a 21 foot wooden sloop named Sailamanda. He has owned Apropos since 2005 and has been maintaining, upgrading, and cruising on her ever since.  In 2014 he departed Seattle with his family and sailed to  the South Pacific, returning in 2016.

Apropos is a 43 foot Hans Christian cutter rigged ketch. She is a double ender blue water cruiser designed and  built for the offshore. Apropos is currently moored in freshwater at the north end of Lake Union at Fremont Boat marina.
